Shibden Hall

We went on a super trip to Shibden Hall in Halifax. We spent the morning in the Hall learning how to be a servant. Then we enjoyed a picnic lunch in the park. After that we had a ride on the miniature railway. It was a really great day.

Billy Bantam

Billy Bantam, the Bradford City mascot came to our school! We did a sponsored penalty shoot-out. We hope to raise lots of money.

Chicks

We went to Nursery to look at the chicks which have hatched. They were very cute.

Training to be a Knight

We read a book called Training to be a Knight. We learnt about the things boys had to do when they were learning to be a page. Here we are acting them out.

Castles and Dragons

Our final topic in Year 1 is called Castles and Dragons. For our holiday homework we did some history research. Look at the amazing things we created.

We really enjoyed reading the book "Papa please get the moon for me" by Eric Carle. We made collage pictures in the style of his illustrations.

Moving Pictures

We designed and made a picture with a moving part. Our rockets can fly through space!

Race to the Moon

This half term we are doing a whole school topic. It is called Race to the Moon. It is to commemorate 50 years since the first moon landing. We really enjoyed preparing for the topic by completing some fantastic holiday homework.

Jack and the Beanstalk

We enjoyed learning a song about the traditional story Jack and the Beanstalk. We hope you love our performance.

Happy Easter Everyone!

We had a great time helping the Easter Bunny deliver Easter eggs to the older children in our school. Enjoy your chocolate!

Holi

In RE we have learnt about the Hindu festival of Holi. It is a festival that is celebrated at the start of spring. It is a very colourful festival so we made Holi cards with different colours

Jack and the Beanstalk

We read the traditional story Jack and the Beanstalk. We enjoyed acting out the main events of the story.

World Book Day

Today we celebrated World Book Day at school. We came to school dressed as a book character. It was great fun looking at everyone's costumes. In the afternoon we split into different groups and did some book activities. In Matisse class we listened to Stuck by Oliver Jeffers, the boy in the story gets his kite stuck in a tree. So we made and flew some kites of our own.

Grow Grow Grow

During the half-term holiday we did some fantastic holiday homework to help us get ready for our new topic, Grow Grow Grow. We made posters and leaflets about plants, trees and flowers. Also we brought some plants to school for us to care for.

Grow Grow Grow

Our new topic is called Grow Grow Grow. We started this topic by looking in the playground to see what living things we could find. The weather has been quite warm so there were many buds, flowers and even some ladybirds.

Maths problem solving

We synergised together in small groups solving an addition maths problem. We had to persevere and be resilient as the problem was quite tricky!

Bible

In RE we learnt about the story of Marie Jones. She wanted her very own special book-a Bible, so she saved her money until eventually she had enough money to buy one. We brought a book from home that is very special to us. We did a short presentation to the class all about it.

Chinese New Year

We have been learning about Chinese New Year ready for our first class assembly in Year 1.

Collecting Word Ideas

We enjoys using a "chocolate bar" to collect word ideas from each other. Then we use the words we collected in our writing.

Be Careful of the Rocks!

Our new topic is called Be Careful of the Rocks! We are going to learn about seaside places, sea animals and about Grace Darling. For our holiday homework we made models and did some research. We are really proud of our work.

Christmas Party

We had a great time at our Christmas party.

Remembrance

This year is one hundred years since the end of World War 1. To commemorate this we made poppies which we put together to make a class wreath. On Friday we came to school dressed as soldiers, doctors, nurses, land girls and other people from World War 1 and 2. In Assembly we held a two minute silence.

Digiduck

In our ITC lessons we used a Digiduck story to help us to understand about our responsibilities when we use the internet. We discussed the importance of not sharing photos that might upset other people. We made posters to remind each other about this.

How can we get this penguin home?

In Autumn 2 our topic is called How can we get this penguin home? For our holiday homework we did some research about penguins. We made posters, leaflets and models to show our learning.

Costumes

After meeting our visitors last week we designed some Sikh and Hindu costumes for them. We are really proud of our work.

Sentences

In English we worked together in our groups. We read some sentences and then decided whether they were about squirrels or about blackbirds.

Hedgehogs

In art we made hedgehogs out of clay. When they have hardened we are going to paint them.

Two special visitors came to our school today.

Seema and Narinder taught us about two religions, Hinduism and Sikhism. It was very interesting.

On September 21st Year One went to Yorkshire Wildlife Park. We had an amazing day.
We have enjoyed our first few days in Year One. Here we are playing with some of our toys.
